Words, their Partners and Meanings, Peter Lucantoni
Wednesday 7 November, 15.00 – 16.00 (UK time)

This webinar looks at the question: ‘What does it mean to know a word?’, and hopes to find an answer! We will look at some practical and useful classroom activities which can help teachers to involve their students more in understanding how words work together to express meaning.

Writing in English for Academic Purposes: challenges for teachers (and how to overcome them), Martin Hewings
Wednesday 21 November, 15.00 – 16.00 (UK time)

The development of English as the global academic language has led to an increased demand for EAP courses. Not surprisingly, these tend to focus on writing, as this is the skill most often assessed in academic courses. In this talk I will discuss some of the challenges facing teachers of academic writing, including: working with authentic materials, teaching students from a range of subject specialisms, and helping students avoid plagiarism. I will present practical classroom activities and materials that will help teachers face (and maybe even overcome) each challenge.
