An Istanbul-based school has been awarded a plaque from a department of Cambridge University in recognition of its on-going commitment to raising English standards in the classroom.

This year, the Denizatı school joined the Cambridge English School Network, a programme being run by Cambridge English Language Assessment and Cambridge University Press.

The school has been offering Cambridge English exams since 2002 including Cambridge English: Young Learners, Cambridge English: Key and Cambridge English: Preliminary. To qualify for membership of the Cambridge English Schools programme, Denizatı has made a commitment to offering official Cambridge English exams and support materials. Christopher Baker – Regional Manager, Middle East, Turkey and Africa at Cambridge English Language Assessment said:

“It’s really encouraging to see Denizatı join this important programme which will see them integrate the Cambridge English exams and support materials into their existing curriculum. This is good news for students as it will encourage them to improve their English language ability which will help them in their future studies and careers.”

The plaque, which officially marks their new status as a Cambridge English School, was presented to Murat Atçı from the Denizatı School at a special ceremony that coincided with a conference in Istanbul to mark the 100th anniversary of the Cambridge English exams.

Filiz Ünsal, Business Development Manager – Turkey for Cambridge English Language Assessment, said:

“Our colleagues at Denizatı share our dedication to providing high quality language education and we have been working closely with them to enhance the opportunities to their students.”

Denizatı Schools opened their first nursery school in 1997 and now have a network which includes another nursery school along with primary and high schools in Atasehir, Istanbul.
