A professor of English from San Juan University has been praised by language learning experts in Cambridge for her insight into language learning, teaching and assessment.

María Laura González, Professor of English at the National University of San Juan, Argentina, has won the first Scholarship awarded by Cambridge English Language Assessment to attend an ALTE International Conference. The Scholarship will provide funding for María to attend the ALTE 5th International Conference in Paris – one of the largest multilingual events for the global assessment community.

Maria impressed the scholarship panel with her perceptive essay on ‘How a good language test can support effective learning’. She argued that a good language test, which asks students to use their thematic and linguistic knowledge to carry out a meaningful task, has a positive influence on course design and student motivation.

The Scholarship was open to people working or studying in the fields of language learning, teaching and assessment. The two day conference will look at issues related to the conference theme of ‘Language assessment for multilingualism: promoting linguistic diversity and inter-cultural communication’.
