A group of 47 Romanian high school students from Gheorghe Lazar National College in Sibiu, a Cambridge preparation centre for more than 12 years, took part in an educational trip to the UK between 11th and 16th April. The students had the chance to visit the city and the University of Cambridge as well as some of the most important tourist attractions in London, such as the National Gallery, the British Museum and the Tower of London. Further sights included Windsor Castle, Stratford-upon-Avon and Oxford, for visits to the Queen’s and Magdalen Colleges and their libraries. The trip was organized as part of the Romanian Ministry of Education’s programme, which offers state school students the opportunity to participate in various extracurricular and non-formal education activities for a week.

Students were accompanied by four school teachers as well as Steluta Stefanescu, Cambridge English consultant for Romania.

Steluta said: “A truly rewarding experience to be part of a mind-opening trip and see students make plans for their future as high achievers, broaden their horizons and envisage new opportunities for their studies and career.”

Most of the 16 to 18 year-old students attended bilingual English classes and have already taken the Cambridge English: Advanced certificate while some of them are currently preparing for this year’s June examination session. During this first visit to the UK for them, the students impressed our colleagues in Cambridge with their advanced English language skills.

Emilia Bortan, one of the students on the trip said:

“The trip to UK was an amazing experience, I learned a lot about the English history and culture, but also the university life. Visiting the university cities made me think about my future and what it takes to get where I want. It was an experience that marked me and also helped me see things in a different perspective”.

Cambridge English Southern Europe we would like to thank all the students and teachers of Gheorghe Lazar National College for their kind words and wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors.
