Cambridge English Teaching Framework: new planning tool for teaching professionals

leave a comment »

The Cambridge English Teaching Framework is our new free tool that allows you to meticulously plan your progression towards reaching your career goals.

All Cambridge English teacher development activities are mapped onto the framework, helping you to identify how our teaching qualifications and courses relate to the framework levels and how they are supported by our range of professional development for teachers.

The development of the framework was:

  • informed by a wide-ranging review of current teacher education literature
  • underpinned by evidence from extensive written records of teacher assessments from around the world
  • based on a review of the CELTA, ICELT and Delta syllabuses.

The framework is organised according to four levels of teacher competency: Foundation, Developing, Proficient and Expert.

Under each level, there are four main categories:

  • Learning and the learner
  • Language knowledge and awareness for teaching
  • Teaching, learning and assessment
  • Professional development and values.

Each of these categories is broken down further into sub-categories and components.

To help you decide which levels (Foundation, Developing, Proficient or Expert) describe you best, we encourage you to have a look at the comprehensive descriptions of the categories. For more detailed competency statements please do not hesitate to check out the full version of the framework.
