Giving your child more of a challenge

leave a comment »

Here are some things you could try if you feel that your child is finding their language lessons easy, or if they just need an extra challenge:

  • Encourage your child to use English in a wide range of everyday situations. For example, if your child helps to set the table, they can identify things in English: ‘four plates, four spoons, salad, soup…’
  • If you are watching a cartoon or a film in English, encourage your child to learn two or three new words. Pause the film, listen to the word two or three times and repeat it.
  • If your child has favourite cartoon or TV characters who speak English, ask your child to imitate them! This could be very funny – and also memorable!

Record your child reading or repeating words in their English book or homework and let them listen to the recording. Do the same with songs, rhymes or chants your child knows.
