The Cambridge English Southern Europe office organized a special ceremony on Tuesday 14 October at the British Ambassador’s Residence in Rome, to award Cambridge English certificates to winners of the 7th edition of the Kangourou English language competition. Students had to sit a bespoke Cambridge English test for the early rounds of the competition and  the finalists had to prove their skills by sitting a live computer-based Cambridge English exam. His Excellency Christopher Prentice, the British Ambassador in Italy, presented the 12 winners with their Cambridge English certificate. Ambassador Prentice said: “Learning English provides young people with the opportunity to enhance their future career and to communicate all over the world. I am glad to see Italian students, parents and teachers be so excited with their achievements in this competition.

The Kangourou competition was divided in three phases. 15,000 students from 400 schools took part in the first round of the competition. For many of them this was their first encounter with Cambridge English. The best performing students in the first phase of the competition were invited to the semi-finals that took place at the premises of AISLi (Association of Italian Language Schools) in early April. A total of 100 students participated at the final phase of the competition in May in Mirabilandia (Ravenna). The competition gave students a flavour of Cambridge English exams and motivated them to continue further with their English language studies.
